METASPEC 1M

The METASPEC 1M Optical Emission Spectrometer is designed to meet the exacting requirements of fast and accurate analysis by Ferrous and Non-Ferrous metal producers. The complete system is designed for continuous and reliable operation and provides accuracy and precision that measures upto present day industry standards.

ANALYTICAL CAPABILITY
The METASPEC 1M is user oriented. Whatever be the analytical program it can be built into the system. It has the capacity of accepting a maximum of 40 optical lines for simultaneous measurement. Thus providing a system, which is versatile.

A wide choice is available for the selection of optical lines to meet the accuracy requirement demanded. Simplicity in installation of additional optical lines in the field caters, to the need for minimum initial investment and future expansion for growth/diversification of analytical requirements.

The computer, essential with every METASPEC 1M, controls the complete operation and performs various drift corrective and comparison corrective operations, thus enhancing the accuracy of measurement.

THE OPTICS
The METASPPEC 1M is a one-meter Spectrometer having a concave reflectance grating in a Paschen-Runge mount. The grating itself is a Milton Roy USA precision ruled grating. The complete optics comprising of, the primary lens, primary slit, grating, secondary slits, secondary lenses and photo multiplier tubes are mounted on a stress relived Invar plate. This reduces, to a minimum, the drift due to temperature fluctuations. Additionally the entire Spectrometer is thermostatically controlled to make it very stable and practically drift free.

A choice of two gratings is offered. The grating having 2400 gr/mm, with an inverse dispersion of 4.16 Angstrom/mm and blazed at 170nm, is used for Ferrous base analysis. This choice of blaze provides better line intensities below 200nm. The other grating having 1440 gr/mm, with an inverse dispersion of 6.9 Angstrom/mm and blazed at 400nm gives a larger wavelength coverage and is used for Non-Ferrous base analysis. Better resolution coupled with use of narrower slits helps in eliminating majority of the spectral interference's. The Photo Multiplier Tubes are from Hamamatsu, Japan.

THE VACUUM SYSTEM
The METASPEC 1M's optical chamber is designed such that the internal volume is kept to the barest minimum thus ensuring pump down to the operating vacuum in a short time. The vacuum pump is a direct drive two-stage rotary vane type. A vacuum safety isolation valve between the chamber and pump serves the function of isolating the two during power failure and preserves vacuum in the optical chamber. As the optics is kept under vacuum, it ensures that it remains in optimum performance for many years.

THE SPARK SOURCE
It incorporates the universally acclaimed excitation technique for analysis of solid samples both for Ferrous and Non-Ferrous metals. The source is semiconductor controlled. In-built voltage level detection circuit ensures that each discharge takes place at the same voltage level. The overall effect is a very stable discharge. Many of the charge and discharge parameters are computer selectable. This enables high-energy pre-integration burns and low energy integration burns.

THE ELECTRONICS
The unique feature of the electronics is that there is no wiring in any of the sub-assemblies. All interconnecting cabling is point to point. The majority of the cards are top pullout and the sub-assemblies are drawer types thus ensuring easy serviceability. In the electronics design care has been taken to keep IC chip count to the barest minim for better MTBF. Control signals from computer to electronics and electronics to source are through opto-couplers or relays enabling electrical isolation. Thus preventing RF interference.

COMPACT CONSTRUCTION
The METASPEC 1M is compact. The complete system comprising of the optical chamber, the excitation source, the electronics and the vacuum pump is built into one rigid enclosure, which is mounted, on castors for easy movement. Leveling screws are provided for fixing it in position.

CONTROL AND DATA MANAGEMENT
The software package provided with each unit is Windows based. It caters to all the requirements of spectrometric analysis inclusive of the operating cycle.

Conditions for each Alloy such as Flush, pre-burn & burn duration, source conditions for pre-burn & burn, order of element read out, setting up standards etc are specified at the outset by a simple form fill-up. Curve coefficients are automatically filled in after calibration.

Options such as radiometric analysis, decimal accuracy, type correction etc are easily selectable and recorded. Thus, on loading a file all parameters are automatically selected, simplifying change over from one alloy to another. All working files can be loaded at the outset and activated by the click of the mouse, avoiding change over down time.

Analytical consistency can be monitored by two or more sparks by user selectable check limits. Results can be transmitted to remote station if installed. Results can be stored for future use. Print out of end of shift/day of stored results is a standard feature.

The diagnostic program is provided for checking various electronics and instrument operation and is a very handy tool for fault location. A diagnostic check of all the voltages, vacuum, temperature etc can be made at any time in stand-by condition or before the start of an analytical cycle.
