HYTORC has patented and incorporated an anti reverse pawl called ACCURACY ASSURANCE PAWL in its torque wrenches, TO PREVENT RATCHET RETURN IN THE RETURN STROKE. The Accuracy Assurance pawl WITH THE HYTORC LARGE TOOTH RATCHET serves the following four purposes.

1. SPEED: HYTORC research has proven that without an anti-reverse pawl, something between 25% and 100% of the tool stroke is spent in overcoming tool and stud elasticity since, nothing stops the ratchet turning backwards. Lacking this pawl, any tool will become agonizingly slow as the tool's torque output increases. Having no second pawl puts the tool's elasticity and the stud elasticity straight into the ratchet. This means while you start of with an actual stroke of 24 to 35 degrees, you might end up with an actual NUT ROTATION of just 18 degrees, 12 degrees, 6 degrees or 0 degrees, if the tool has mini teeth. The Accuracy Assurance Pawl guarantees that the preset torque reaches the nut.

2. HANDS FREE OPERATION: It assures that the tool has not to be held against its reaction point but can be operated from remote. Without an accuracy assurance pawl, especially on vertical applications, you need to hold the tool against its reaction point, one of the most frequent reasons for pinching fingers. The reaction arm of any wrench is locked against a stationery object during the forward stroke. During the retract mode, the reaction arm tends to walk away from the reaction point and it has to be pressed manually against it. Because of the accuracy assurance pawl, HYTORC wrenches ensure "hands Free" operation as the reaction arm will remain abutted to the stationary operation till the tightening/loosening process is complete.

3. PREVENTS PRE-STALL: If there is a torsion build-up due to twist in the bolt itself, on long bolts for example, without an accuracy assurance pawl, the tool can actually pre-stall, i.e. stop turning the nut before the desired torque is reached. Pre-stall can also happen when loosening long corroded bolts. All that might be done is building up and releasing bolt torsion without ever applying full torque to the nut i.e. the stroke overcomes the stud torsion without turning the nut. During the return stroke the stud will unwind and the ratchet will return backwards. The accuracy assurance pawl ensures the ratchet does not return backwards.

4.USER FRIENDLY: The accuracy assurance pawl makes it possible for multi-tool application (simultaneous use of up to 4 tools). In confined areas it is the only assurance that even loose nuts are being tightened. That is the reason why HYTORC pumps come with a standard 4-PORT manifold. With a HYTORC, it is possible to ensure that the nuts are being tightened WITHOUT VISUAL CERTIFICATION of the nut rotation and there is no danger that the tool might be idling instead of tightening.
