BRIEF HISTORY OF THE COMPANY :

Capt. Metcalfe, Master Mariner, established this firm of Surveyors & Loss Assessors in September 1885 at Bombay on inducement and for the convenience of British Mercantile and Insurance interests. A few years later as the business grew Capt. Hodgkinson, Master Mariner, joined the firm as a junior partner and the firm eventually acquired the name "Metcalfe & Hodgkinson" as a registered partnership firm.

On 27th September 1948 the partnership was incorporated in the State of Bombay as a Private Limited company and formally acquired the present name i.e. Metcalfe & Hodgkinson (Pvt.) Ltd.

PRESENT STATUS OF THE COMPANY :

For 118 years "Metcalfe" has continuously provided professional Survey services most competently and with total integrity. With 5 Regional Offices, 31 Survey Offices and Survey Stations nationwide, our response to our customers is rapid and they are kept informed of our preliminary findings immediately.

In addition to being named in some Insurance Policies of Overseas Insurance Companies as Survey Agents, we are also approved by the Solvent Extractors Association of India as Surveyors / Analysts for Groundnut Oilcake, Deoiled rice Bran, Soya-bean extractions etc. as common Surveyor of Buyers and Sellers for quantity and quality.

Metcalfe & Hodgkinson (Pvt.) Ltd. is totally a Survey , Loss Adjusting and Commodity Inspection Company, which is owned by professionals.

Categorisation of surveyors by

Insurance Regulatory And Development Authority of India

(IRDA)

 

After amendment of the Insurance Act in 2001, all Licensed Surveyors were screened and categorised according to their qualifications and experience in surveying and assessment of losses.

 

The Company Metcalfe & Hodgkinson (Private) Limited and also its Directors have been categorised as “A” Grade Surveyors by “IRDA” which is the highest category. The categorisation of Directors and the Company is as follows:
