Our SetupOur office is located in the historic Old Assembly Building. The Town Hall,High Court, Raj Bhavan, Assembly, Akashwani Bhavan and the Eden Gardens are some of the important landmarks in our neighbourhood. To our west flows the river Hooghly, to our east is the Esplanade, to our north lies BBD Bagh (more commonly known as Dalhousie Square or simply as 'Dalhousie') and to the south lies the sprawling Maidan. Our office is about five Kms from both Howrah and Sealdah Railway stations, about 20 Kms from Kolkata Airport and hardly a kilometre away from the Esplanade Metro Railway station. Since it is centrally located, it is well connected by bus, metro rail, circular rail, tram and ferry services.
The Eastern Regional Office is headed by a Regional Director who is assisted by three Deputy Directors, two Assistant Directors, an Accounts Officer and other supporting staff.Our Functions
We perform the following functions:
(A) Recruitment:
We conductOpen Competitive Examinations. We also hold proficiency tests, screening tests and interviews in connection with recruitment to Selection Posts. (B)Departmental Examinations:
We also conduct Departmental Examinations for promotion to Grade "C" Stenographers, Upper Division Clerks and Lower Division Clerks (for Group "D" staff). In addition, Quarterly Competitive examinations for recruitment of Stenographers(Grade"D" and equivalent) from amongst eligible LDCs and UDCs are held from time to time. Quarterly typewriting tests and Proficiency tests in stenography are also conducted for departmental candidates.
(C) Workshops:
We conduct workshops from time to time for developing question banks. Academicians, Scholars and experts on objective testing techniques are invited to participate in these workshops.We also conduct workshops for drawing up panels of experts required for conduct of stenography tests.
(D) Welfare of SC/ST Candidates:
We assist the Central and State Governments to conduct pre examination coaching for SC/ST Candidates appearing for various examinations conducted by the Commission.
